Prefill the quote form

When your website already asked the visitor for their ZIPs, moving date or name, pass them to the quote form so it opens filled in — four copy-paste ways.

Some websites ask a question or two before the quote form — the pickup ZIP, the moving date, which city you are in. Pass those answers to the form and it opens with them already filled in, so the visitor never types them twice.

Before you start

  • The form must already be on your site (Settings › Website & forms › Quote forms › Install).
  • Prefill is optional. If your site passes nothing, the form works exactly as before.
  • The visitor can change everything. Nothing is sent until they press the button themselves.

What you can pass

FieldName to useExample
Pickup ZIP / postal codefromZip02115 or K1A 0B1
Destination ZIP / postal codetoZip10001
Pickup or destination cityfromCity, toCity (and fromState, toState)Cambridge, MA
Moving datemoveDate2026-11-02 (or 11/02/2026)
Move sizemoveSize2 Bedroom Apartment (or just 2 bedroom when only one size starts that way)
ServiceserviceTypeLocal Move (Short and Long forms)
First and last namefirstName, lastNameJordan, Lee
Emailemailjordan@example.com
Phonephone(617) 555-0100

Each value is checked the way the form checks what a visitor types. A ZIP the form cannot find, a past or blocked day, a size or service the form does not offer, or an email that is not an email is simply left out — the visitor never sees an error because of it.

A city fills the ZIP only when the city has exactly one ZIP. Most cities have several, so pass the ZIP whenever your site has it.

Way 1 — on the form's tag (simplest)

Add data- attributes to the form's tag, with dashes between the words:

<div data-moveboard-form="short" data-from-zip="02115" data-to-zip="10001" data-move-date="2026-11-02"></div>

Most website builders let you fill the attributes from your own page's fields or code.

Way 2 — in a script before the MoveBoard line

Put this just before your MoveBoard line (the forms.js line from the Install tab):

<script>
  window.MoveBoardForms = {
    prefill: { fromZip: "02115", toZip: "10001", moveDate: "2026-11-02", firstName: "Jordan", email: "jordan@example.com" }
  };
</script>

Way 3 — any time, for single-page sites

If your page shows the form and then asks more questions (or the visitor changes an answer), call this after the MoveBoard line has loaded. The form takes the new values at once:

<script>
  MoveBoardForms.prefill({ fromZip: "02115", toZip: "02139", moveDate: "2026-11-02" });
</script>

Each call fills the fields you name; fields you leave out keep what is already in the form.

Way 4 — in your page's address

When your first page sends the visitor on to the page with the form, add mb_ parameters to that address:

https://www.yourmovers.com/quote?mb_from_zip=02115&mb_to_zip=10001&mb_date=2026-11-02

Use this for ZIPs, the date and the size. Keep names, emails and phone numbers out of addresses — they end up in browser history and in website analytics. Use Way 1, 2 or 3 for those.

When the same field comes from two places

Way 3 (or Way 2) wins over Way 1, which wins over Way 4.

Check it

Open your page as a visitor. The form's first step shows the ZIPs and date you passed, with no red messages. Then send a test quote and check it on Orders.
