Linked move in / move out
What a change to the customer's details on one order of a moving-and-storage pair does to the other — do nothing, ask, or update both.

Settings › Storage › Linked move in / move out decides what happens to the other order of a moving-and-storage pair when you change the customer's details on one of them.
Before you start
A move into storage and its move out are two orders. A new move out starts with everything of the move in's — the customer, contact, Add'l Contact, notes, move size and inventory — and follows the move in until your team works on the move out itself, or it is reserved or booked. While it follows, every change you save on the move in's customer or inventory reaches the move out, whatever this setting says (Move-ins and move-outs).
This setting is for after that. It is kept per branch. Anyone who can open Settings can change it, and nothing is saved until you press Save.
The choices
| Choice | When you save the customer's details on one order of the pair |
|---|---|
| Do nothing (the default) | Each order keeps its own details. |
| Ask me | MoveBoard asks "Also update the move out (#RES-1202)?" — or the move in, when you changed the move out. Yes, update it copies; No leaves it. |
| Update both automatically | The other order takes the same change at once. |
"Customer's details" are the name, email, both phones, the best way and time to reach them, the Add'l Contact and Additional Info. A change to the move in's inventory is asked or copied the same way, onto the move out only: the move out's own inventory never goes back to the move in.
What you see
- Every copy writes a line on both orders, for example "Customer details copied from the move in #RES-1201 by Sarah Lee." on the move out and "Customer details also updated on the move out #RES-1202 by Sarah Lee." on the move in.
- An order that is completed (or whose job has started, for the inventory) is never written to: nothing is asked about it.
- A customer changing their own inventory in their portal is never asked: with Update both automatically — or while the move out follows — their finished inventory reaches the move out.
If something goes wrong
- "This order is not linked to a move in or a move out." — the other order was unlinked, archived or is in another branch. Link them again from the Storage card.
- "#RES-1202 could not be updated." — your change is saved on this order; the other order keeps its own details.
