Move-ins and move-outs

How a moving-and-storage order becomes a storage tenant when it is booked, and how its move out is made, linked and dated.

A move into storage and the move back out are two orders, linked to each other. The move in becomes a storage tenant when it is booked; the move out sets when the tenant leaves.

The two orders

A Moving & Storage order has a Storage card in its addresses row, where the storage stop is: the destination when goods go into storage, the start when they come out. The two arrows between the storage stop and the customer's address flip the order between going into storage and coming out of it.

When a moving-and-storage lead comes in, MoveBoard makes the move in, and — if Auto Create Storage Move Out is on for that move type in Settings › Storage › Moving & storage — the move out too, already linked, on the customer's delivery date (or a month later when there is none).

The Storage card on the order

  • On the move in: Monthly fee, Duration cost, the storage dates and whether the storage is Included in total or Not included in total in the quote.
  • When the orders are linked: the other order's status and date, with View Delivery Order (on the move in) or View Pickup Order (on the move out) to open it.
  • When there is no linked order yet: Link order to search for one, and Create a move out.

Create a move out

Press Create a move out on the move in. MoveBoard makes a new order for the move out of storage — its one stop is the customer's delivery address, on the day the storage period ends — and links the two. "Move out order created successfully" confirms it.

Type in Link order and pick the other order. MoveBoard asks Do you wish to update the move details? — Yes lets you copy details from one order to the other, No links them as they are. Press Save. Two orders link only when their move type and estimate type match.

To unlink, press the unlink icon and confirm Yes, unlink.

Booking the move in makes the tenant

When the move in is Booked, MoveBoard creates the storage tenant from it — the customer, the storage day, the sizes, the order number and contact — as a Future Moves In tenant on the Storage page. The tenant's status follows the move in's status from then on.

The move out sets the move-out date

When the linked move out is booked, the tenant's Move Out date and the monthly charge's end date become the move out's storage day. If that order is postponed, cancelled or archived, the date is taken away again so billing does not stop.

If someone typed a different move-out date on the tenant by hand, MoveBoard never overwrites it silently. The tenant window and the order's Storage card ask, for example, "Update the storage move-out date to the move-out order's date (Oct 15, 2026)?" — Yes takes the order's date, No keeps the typed one.

If something goes wrong

  • "Move type or estimate type is not supported to link orders" — the two orders differ in move type or estimate type.
  • "Failed to create move out order" / "Failed linked order" — the reason from the server is shown in its place; fix it and try again.
  • A completed day's Storage card is frozen: you can still open the linked order, but not link, unlink or create a move out.
