Weight-priced tariffs ("per X lbs")
How a tariff priced by weight works — the "Price Is Per" unit, the weight factor that turns cubic feet into pounds, minimum weights, and the re-rate on the scale weight.

Most interstate tariffs charge by weight: a rate per 100 lbs (the industry calls 100 lbs a "hundredweight" or CWT). MoveBoard lets each tariff say what its rate is per.
Set it on the tariff
When you create a mileage tariff (Settings › Long distance › Mileage tariff › Create New Tariff):
- Priced by — By Weight (lbs) or By Volume (CuFt).
- Price Is Per — how many pounds (or cubic feet) one rate covers. 100 means per 100 lbs; 1 means per pound.
- Starting Distance and Starting Size — where the first range starts.
A 400N-style tariff asks the same question as Line haul rates are per (lbs). A Single Factor Rate tariff asks Rates are per (100 = per cwt). Its accessorials then read "per 100 lbs", "per 100 lbs per flight" and so on.
From cubic feet to pounds
Your customers' inventory is counted in cubic feet. A weight-priced tariff needs pounds, so MoveBoard multiplies by the Weight Factor — pounds per cubic foot (7 is common). Each order keeps its own copy of your company's factor, shown on the order's Move card as Weight Factor. The Weight row under it shows the result, or the custom weight if you typed one.
Example: 1,000 cu ft × 7 = 7,000 lbs. At $45.00 per 100 lbs the line haul is 70 × $45.00 = $3,150.00.
Minimums
- A mileage tariff's minimum is on the order's Minimum cf. pop-up: Enable Minimum Price, the minimum size and the base price up to it.
- A 400N-style tariff charges at least its Minimum weight, whatever the order weighs.
The real weight
An estimate is based on the estimated weight. On an interstate move the truck is weighed at a certified scale, and the long-distance bill of lading carries the scale weights. The closing side's Quote card then shows the re-rate on the net weight — what the line haul comes to at the real weight — and, on a non-binding estimate, what may be collected at delivery. See Long-distance bill of lading.
If something goes wrong
- The value must be numeric — on the create form, a size or distance box has letters in it.
- Please fix error below! — a range in the Lbs Ranges drawer is wrong; the drawer stays open until it's fixed.
