Trip revenue and margin
The difference between a trip's order totals and its trip revenue, how the gross margin is worked out from the expenses, and who can see it.

Every trip shows what it earns. The Overview tab of the trip window has a Revenue box; people with the right permission see Revenue and margin.
Two kinds of revenue
- Order totals — Everything the orders on the trip are worth: the line haul plus packing, storage, other days and every other charge on those orders.
- Trip revenue — Linehaul and the trip's own services (fuel); the margin uses this. It is what the trip itself earns for carrying the goods.
The margin is always worked out on trip revenue, never on order totals: packing done by a local crew or months of storage aren't the trip's work.
When an order is split across trips, each trip counts its share of the order's money by its share of the cubic feet. An order split between trucks of the same trip counts in full.
The margin
With the permission, the box adds:
- Estimated expenses and Estimated gross margin (with its %) — from the estimated amounts on the Expenses tab.
- Actual expenses and Actual gross margin — once actual amounts are entered.
Gross margin = trip revenue − expenses. A driver advance is not counted again as a trip cost — it comes off the driver's settlement. See Trip expenses, fuel and IFTA miles.
Example: trip revenue $18,400.00, actual expenses $11,960.00 → actual gross margin $6,440.00 · 35%.
Who sees what
| Everyone who can open the Trip Planner | People with Can see trip profit and settlements |
|---|---|
| Order totals and trip revenue, on the board and in the trip | Also expenses, margin, the Settlement tab and money on the printed trip sheet |
Admins have Can see trip profit and settlements by default; you can give it to others on the person's permissions. People without it don't receive the expense lines at all — they're never sent to their screen.
Across many trips
Reports › Long Distance has a trip profit report that lists every trip's revenue, expenses and margin over a date range. See Long-distance reports.
