Long distance in Canada
Running long-distance moves from a Canadian branch, or into and out of Canada — kilometres, postal codes, provinces on the regions map, and fuel.

MoveBoard serves movers in the US and Canada. A Canadian company prices long distance the same way as a US one; a few things work differently.
Kilometres
Set Distance unit to Kilometers on Settings › Company & branches › Company info (the Units card). From then on every distance you type in your settings — local and intrastate limits, tariff distance ranges, extra-stop distances, fuel ranges — is read in kilometres, and orders show distances in km. See Kilometres and units.
Set it before you build your tariffs: the numbers in a tariff are read in the unit of the day, not converted.
Postal codes
Canadian postal codes are kept whole — M5V 3L9 — both when MoveBoard measures the distance and when a tariff looks a code up. Your company's address takes a Canadian postal code when its Country is Canada; otherwise you see …: Please enter a valid Canada zip code.
Provinces
- "Intrastate" means within your province. On Settings › Services & packing › Local moves, Switch to interstate if crossing state lines uses your Main State/Province, so a move that leaves your province is priced as interstate.
- On Settings › Long distance › Regions tariff, the map is the US. Canada's provinces and territories appear as chips in a row under it — press one to price a route there, just as you press a state.
Fuel
On a tariff's fuel, Fuel: automatic (DOE) follows the US government's weekly diesel price, which has no Canadian series. For Canadian moves, use Fixed % instead.
Canadian paperwork
MoveBoard treats your company as Canadian when its address says Canada (or its postal code is Canadian, or it counts in kilometres). Its long-distance documents then follow Canadian rules instead of the US federal ones:
- Your province's uniform conditions of carriage for household goods (for example Ontario's O. Reg. 643/05, Schedule 3) in place of the US rules.
- Your National Safety Code number in place of USDOT and MC — type it in Local license on Company info.
- Released value of $0.60/lb ($1.32/kg) per article, and Replacement Value Protection on a declared value of at least $10 per lb.
- The Canadian claim time limits, and complaints to the Canadian Association of Movers and your provincial consumer affairs office.
- In Ontario, a non-binding estimate is never charged more than 10% over for the estimated services.
See Moving in Canada.
Cross-border moves
A move between the US and Canada is priced like any other long-distance move between the two places. Customs paperwork is not part of MoveBoard; keep it in the order's attachments.
