Long distance
A long-distance order
What is different in the order window when a move is long distance — the Pickup and Delivery halves, the tariff rows, the Linehaul Charge and its step-by-step pop-up, and the long-distance summary on the quote.

A long-distance order opens in the same order window as any other. These are the parts that change.
Pickup and Delivery
The Move card has a small Pickup | Delivery switch on its title line.
- Pickup shows the move date, the pickup arrival window and the pickup crew and truck, as on a local move. A day priced by a long-distance tariff is charged by its line haul, so the Crew Size and Trucks lists show only the counts — no rate an hour beside them.
- Both start with Pickup by: Local crew / Trip Planner; Delivery then has Delivery by: Local crew / Trip Planner. See The Trip Planner.
- Delivery shows the delivery: the delivery days, the delivery date and spread, and — when Delivery by is Local crew — its arrival window, crew and truck block. See Delivery dates and the delivery spread.
Holding trucks and booking
Schedule Date/Truck follows the switch: on Pickup it holds the pickup truck — the truck an order needs before it can be Booked, Reserved or Can Book Online. On Delivery it holds the delivery truck for the block dates and the truck's leave and return times (Delivery by: Local crew only).
When Pickup by is Trip Planner, the pickup holds no truck either: the Trucks row says The long-distance truck, on its trip, booking asks for no truck, start time or crew, and the order is off the Dispatch board and the Calendar's truck lanes.
When Delivery by says Trip Planner, the delivery gets its truck, driver and dates on its trip (the Trips menu), so Schedule Date/Truck on the Delivery tab holds no truck: it says so, and Hold the pickup truck turns it to the pickup's schedule. Booking never asks for a delivery truck, delivery block dates or leave and return times on a Trip Planner delivery — not on SAVE, not when the status is changed from a list or from Dispatch. A delivery truck left on the order from when its delivery was the local crew's is kept (switching back finds it) but holds nothing while the delivery is on the Trip Planner. Once booked, the Delivery tab says Booked, waiting for a trip and the order is in the trip's Add Orders. If you press SAVE on a Booked order with no pickup truck, the warning reads To save these changes, assign a truck to your move: use Schedule Date/Truck on the Pickup tab of Move Details to pick the pickup truck.
The tariff rows
On the Move card, under the size of the move:
- Tariff — Company default (…), or another of your tariffs for this customer. Pick one and press SAVE; the rate is looked up again.
- Rate per 100 Lbs (or Rate per Cu/Ft — the words follow the tariff) — the tariff's rate for this distance and size. Type over it to change it for this order; the small arrow puts the tariff's rate back.
- Add. Rate per … — what weight added at the closing is charged at. Leave it blank to use the rate above.
- Minimum cf. — opens a pop-up with Enable Minimum Price, the minimum size and the Base price charged up to it.
- Weight Factor — pounds per cubic foot (for example 7). It is your company's setting at the time the order was made, kept on the order.
- Weight — what the line haul is priced at: the order's cubic feet times the weight factor, or the custom weight. A 400N-style tariff charges at least its minimum weight.
Every change waits in your draft until you press SAVE, like any other row.
The Linehaul Charge
On the Quote card, the Linehaul Charge row is the line haul before tax. Press its label to open Long-distance charges, step by step:
- Tariff — which tariff and kind priced it.
- Line haul — the distance and its band, the weight and any minimum weight, the rate, any weight break, the tariff discount and the minimum charge.
- Accessorials — the long-distance fees on the order, and the ones the tariff offers on request.
- Fuel, valuation, estimate — the fuel surcharge, the valuation and the estimate type.
When the order's Auto calculate is off, you can type the line haul straight into the row; the arrow puts the tariff's figure back.
The long-distance summary
Under the quote totals a grey box sums it up in words: the Tariff, the Billed weight (or Billed volume), the Line haul rate (or Flat price) and the Delivery date and spread. Under it, one line on what the estimate promises:
- Binding: the customer pays $… plus only services added later.
- Not to exceed: at delivery the customer pays no more than $… (…% over the estimate). — on a non-binding order with a not-to-exceed percent. See Not to exceed.
After the move
Once the crew has filled in the long-distance bill of lading, the closing side's Quote card shows the estimated and the scale weight, the re-rate on the actual weight, what may be collected at delivery and what is billed later. See Long-distance bill of lading.
