On this page
Every message you send a customer carries their own link — to their portal, their deposit, their inventory, an invoice or a document to sign.
They sign the customer in
A portal link signs the customer straight in — no code, no password — and opens the right page (Home, Inventory, Book…). A sign-in link keeps working for 90 days. After that the customer sees Your link has expired. Please request a new one. and can sign in with a code by text.
Invoice, storage, document and claim links are tied to that one invoice, account, document or claim and open without signing in.
They're short
Links are short (for example ending in a code of letters and numbers), so they fit in a text. The short code is long enough that nobody can guess another customer's link.
They open on your website
Customer links use your company's own website address — the Domain URL of the branch, or else the one in Settings › Company & branches › Company info. Keep it right: it's the address on every link you send. When your site carries your website-forms script, the portal covers your page at once — see The portal on your website.
Old links keep working
A link in an older message still opens: short links, older long links and older sign-in links are all understood. If it has expired, the customer is offered a code by text instead.
When a link doesn't open the move
- The move was marked Bad Lead or archived — it's hidden from the portal, so the link opens the customer's portal home instead.
- The link was for the additional contact — their copies carry the sign-in page, not the customer's own sign-in. See A second contact on the move.
- A quote form on your website, with an email already in your system — the form doesn't sign anyone in from a public form; it shows the sign-in page, which lands on the move once they sign in.
Putting links in messages
Use the link variables in your templates — the customer's portal link, Deposit link, Inventory link, the invoice link. See Variables in templates.
