Card fees and cash discounts

Add a fee to card payments, give a discount for cash, and choose where each applies.

How they work

  • Credit card fee — added on top of a card payment. A percentage is worked out on the amount including any tip; a dollar amount is added as is.
  • Cash discount — taken off a cash payment. A cash tip is the crew's: it's never discounted.
  • Your own payment types (for example Venmo) can each carry their own processing fee, the same way a card does.

When you take a payment, the switch for the fee or discount shows in Create Payment with its name (for example Credit Card Fee), already on where your settings say it applies. The Charge / Record button shows the new total. The payment's details list the fee or discount as its own line.

Taking a fee off one payment

Only admins can switch a fee or discount off a payment it would apply to. For everyone else the switch is locked: Only a company admin can take this off a payment.

Set it up

Go to Settings › Payments & billing › Payment & processing fees.

Standard Payment Fees — for the credit card fee and the cash discount: its Name, the Amount (in % or $, as stored) and Enabled.

Charge processing fees for payments made:

  • Deposit paid by the customer on their account page
  • Deposit taken in the order window
  • Payments taken on sales tab on order window
  • Payments taken on closing tab on order window
  • Payments taken on the bill of lading
  • Payments taken on an invoice or relating to an invoice
  • Storage charge on both customer account page & storage tenant

Display credit card fee — Display credit card fee on customer account page for deposit, so the customer sees the fee before paying.
