Send leads by API
For your web developer or a lead seller — sending leads into MoveBoard from another system, what a lead needs, and how duplicates and limits work.

On this page
If you have your own website form, a booking tool, or a lead seller who can post leads, they can send leads straight into MoveBoard. Each lands as a New order exactly like a provider lead.
Most companies don't need this: MoveBoard's own quote forms do the same with nothing to build.
Before you start
Go to Settings › Pricing & calculator › Move Size, open For lead providers and press Show instructions. Pick the move types the seller sends (Residential, Commercial…) and press Copy instructions. The text has everything your developer or lead seller needs:
- the address to post leads to,
- the two headers to send (Content-Type and X-TenantID, your company's number; a second branch also gets X-BranchID),
- a sample lead,
- the number of each move size — what the seller sends as bedroomSize, for example
33 => Large 1 Bedroom condo/aprt.
Leads are sent to your company and branch by those details — keep them to the people who need them.
The move size numbers
Every bedroom size on the Move Size page shows its Lead # with a copy button. A new size gets its number the moment you press Save; send the seller the new instructions then. The numbers never change when you rename or reorder a size. A deleted size's number stops working: a lead that sends it gets your first bedroom size instead, and its sales note says no move size has this number.
What a lead needs
- An email address or a phone number (10 digits) — at least one. A lead with neither is refused: the lead needs an email address or a phone number.
- Ideally: first and last name, move date, move size, the origin and destination addresses or ZIP codes, the move type, the provider's name, and any comments.
- The move date as 2026-10-15 (10/15/2026 works too). A lead with no date is set 10 days from today; a date that isn't a date is refused with the reason.
- The move type, if sent, is RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL or MILITARY.
- HomeAdvisor's own field names (name, address, city, stateProvince, postalCode) are understood as the pickup address. Any other field you send is kept, word for word, in the lead's sales note.
What happens to it
The same as any provider lead — see Lead providers:
- The provider name is matched to your lead sources (unknown → Other) and locked on the order.
- The service is picked from the two ZIP codes unless the lead names one.
- The comments become notes, and the whole lead is kept in a sales note. The move size the seller sent is named there, e.g. Move size: Large 1 Bedroom condo/aprt. (33).
- Your assignment rules hand it to a salesperson, and your team gets the New lead notification.
The answer sent back includes the new order's number — and the price, only if your company shows prices on its forms (Settings › Customer experience › Quote display).
Duplicates and limits
- Duplicates — the same lead sent twice (same branch, email, phone, move date and both ZIP codes) is answered "already reported" and no second order is made. A system that retries is safe.
- Limits — too many leads from one place in a short time are turned away for a while. Normal volumes never meet it.
The answers
- 200 — the order was made; the answer includes its number.
- 208 — the same lead is already here; nothing new was made.
- 400 — the lead was refused; the answer says why.
- 403 / 404 — the company or the branch in the details isn't one MoveBoard knows.
- 503 — something went wrong on our side; send the lead again a little later.
If something goes wrong
- Leads aren't arriving — check with the MoveBoard team that the address and company details are the ones they gave you.
- A lead is refused with the lead needs an email address or a phone number — add one of them.
