Claims
A paid claim on the closing ("Claims settled")
When a damage claim is paid through the order's money, the closing shows "Claims settled" under Taxes, Total Cost goes down by it and Total Due stays $0.00 — never "still owed".

A damage claim paid back to the customer is a settlement, not money the customer owes. When a claim is Paid and its payment went through the order's money (a Refund to card, or a refund written on the order's payments), the closing takes it off what the job came to.
What you see on the closing
Open the order and switch to the closing side (View Closing Info). In Quote Details:
- a red Claims settled line right under Taxes, with the claim's payout as a minus (for example -$155.40);
- Total Cost lowered by it ($4,775.32 − $155.40 = $4,619.92);
- Payments Made lowered by the same refund ($4,619.92);
- Total Due = the new Total Cost less the payments: $0.00, not "$155.40 (still owed)".
With several paid claims on one order, the line is their total.
When it applies — and when it does not
| The claim | On the closing |
|---|---|
| Paid, by Refund to card or a refund written on the order | Claims settled line, lower Total Cost |
| Paid, recorded on the claim only (Settings › Claims › Paying a claim: Record on the claim only) | Nothing changes: the order's payments did not change either |
| Open, offer sent, accepted but not paid yet, closed, deleted | Nothing changes |
The refund itself stays in Payments as a refund (money out), named for the claim (Damage claim CL-0004 …).
Pay and commissions
Everything paid as a percent of the total uses the lowered total: a commission of the total (the salesperson's %, a crew member's % of the total) and any What's included rule (the claim always counts there, as Claims settled, on a commission of the total; never on a packing or extra-services commission). Payroll already made is not changed by itself: press Update payroll from closing on the order to pay on the lowered total.
Elsewhere
The same lowered total is used on the Profit card, a Closing Invoice (a Claims settled line), the customer's portal and receipts (no balance to pay), and the reports that read the closing's total (Income, Revenue, Receivables, Top customers, Sales by person, Commissions, the dashboard's closing income). On a bill drawn day by day, the claim lowers the day whose payment was refunded.
