How MoveBoard works out what is owed
The settlement under the customer's protection — released value by the pound, or Full Value Protection less the deductible — and when a person has to decide instead.

On this page
MoveBoard works out the settlement from the protection the customer chose for their move, item by item. It never invents a number: when an item can't be priced by the rules, the claim goes to the office.
Released value
The basic, free protection. Each item is paid by its weight: your released value rate × the pounds, 60¢ per pound per article unless you set your own Released value rate in Settings › Documents & bill of lading › Claims.
- A 50 lb dresser at 60¢ is worth at most $30.00.
- If the customer claims less than that (or their repair estimate is less), they get what they claimed.
- An item with no weight can't be priced: the office confirms the weight.
Full Value Protection
The item is repaired or replaced:
- For a damaged item with a repair estimate, the estimate; otherwise the amount the customer claimed.
- The deductible comes off once, from the whole claim.
- The total is never more than the declared value on the order.
The lines under the total say so, for example "Deductible −$250.00" or "Capped at your declared value $5,000.00".
When a person decides
MoveBoard works out what it can and marks the claim for review when:
- "No weight — released value is paid by the pound"
- "Property damage — not covered by valuation; the office decides"
- "Packed by the customer — liability may be limited"
- "Worth more than $100 per pound (extraordinary value)"
- "No amount claimed"
- "Filed later than the filing window"
- "The order's protection can't be priced automatically" — any protection other than released value or Full Value Protection
- "Full Value Protection with no declared value on the order"
These claims always wait for the office, whatever your offer setting.
Where you see it
In the claim window, What MoveBoard works out: shows the settlement with each item's reason (for example "Released value: 60¢ × 50 lb = $30.00"). When you send the offer, every item starts at MoveBoard's amount (or what could be priced, for a claim that needs review) and you set the final amount for each.
The customer sees the same numbers on their page — the reasons in plain words — when the offer is shown to them.
The protection on the order
The protection comes from the order's valuation: the customer's choice of released value or Full Value Protection, with its declared value and deductible. Set your valuation options in Settings › Pricing & calculator › Valuation.
